Generation Solutions is a proud sponsor of the Moonlight Serenade at the D-Day Memorial on Saturday, May 26.  At 8pm, the Jefferson Choral Society will perform a patriotic concert with memorable music that will serve as a powerful reminder of the significance of Memorial Day.  This year’s concert marks ten years that the Jefferson Choral Society has been performing at the Memorial as an annual fundraiser for the D-Day Foundation.  Over the years, the National D-Day Memorial and the Jefferson Choral Society have partnered together to make sure the high price of freedom is recognized each Memorial Day. This year’s concert also includes performances by the Jefferson Youth Chorale and Cantate and the Chorus of the Blue Ridge. All veterans will be recognized during the event. Prior to the show, from 7pm to 8pm, performer Keith Campbell will take the stage and a number of veterans will be honored.  The Memorial will remain open until 10pm.

Tickets to the concert are $7.00 in advance for adults and $5.00 for students ages 6-18.  Children under six are free.  Tickets at the door are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for students.  Ticket locations include Givens Book Store in Lynchburg, Arthur’s Jewelry Store and the Bedford Area Welcome Center in Bedford.  Guests can also call 540-586-3329 to order tickets by mail; however, orders must be received by May 23. Visitors are asked to bring their own chair to the event. Sponsors for this year’s concert includes Generation Solutions, Bedford Memorial Hospital, and “Your Hometown News Leader, WDBJ7″.

This event is a series of events taking place at the Memorial within the coming weeks.  On Monday, May 28 at 11am the Memorial hosts a Memorial Day program which includes special recognition of Normandy veteran, 1stLt. Evelyn “Chappy” Kowalchuk, who served with the 818th MAETS and evacuated wounded soldiers from Omaha Beach on D+3.  On June 6, the Memorial commemorates the 68th anniversary of D-Day with special guests from the 101st Airborne to celebrate their 70th anniversary and to dedicate a new name to the Memorial wall paying tribute to the 4,413 who gave their lives on D-Day.  For more information on these upcoming events, contact the Memorial at 540-586-3329 or visit www.dday.org.

2nd Annual Grandparents Day Sock Hop: Roanoke

Monday, September 12th, 2011

On September 11, 2011 folks in Roanoke took a step back in time with a free sock hop at Tanglewood Mall. Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Generation Solutions transported grandparents and their families back to the 1950’s and 1960’s with their second annual Grandparent’s Day celebration. Attendees enjoyed music of that era provided by the 40 Years After band and there were contests galore and even a visit and a performance from the “King” himself. They rounded out the festivities with complimentary hotdogs and a root beer floats. We hope to see you there next year!
