In-Home Senior Care – Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between in-home senior care and home health care?

Home care is a broad term used to describe several forms of care provided in-home. Generally, it covers personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, transferring, grooming), homemaking services (light housekeeping and chores) and companionship services, which may include personal shopping, transportation, and socialization. In-home senior care is paid privately, whereas home health care is prescribed by a physician and covered by Medicare or supplemental insurance providers.

How should I choose an agency for in-home care?

Choose an agency that will provide all the services you need for your parent or loved one. If you need help identifying these, speak with a doctor, geriatric care manager or hospital discharge planner if the person just left the hospital. These people can refer you to reputable agencies.

Here are important questions that you need to ask your agency before getting in-home care of any kind:

Is your agency licensed by the state?

Yes, our agency is licensed by the state of Virginia. We accept private pay/Long Term Care Insurance, Medicare and supplemental insurances.

What services do you provide?

We are an all-inclusive home health agency that offers a variety of private pay options: companion care, home health aides, personal shopping, transportation, personal medication system, personal response system and Geriatric Care Management.

How quickly can services begin?

Services can begin promptly. It is not unusual for private paying clients to be admitted the same day.

Why should I choose your agency?

Please be reminded that everyone has the legal right to request their agency of choice. With that in mind, it’s important for you to know how agencies operate and what’s most beneficial about selecting that agency. Generation Solutions Has over 22 years of experience and we strive everyday to have the most compassionate, skilled, trained, and thoughtful team of professional caregivers and nurses. Trust in the licensed, bonded, insured and proven success of Generation Solutions. Are your employees insured and bonded?

All of our employees are insured and bonded through our agency. We also conduct a thorough background check on each to ensure that they are trustworthy to be in your home. This includes a drug screening and office of inspector general checks.

Is there consistency among caregivers?

Yes. We always strive towards familiarity and consistency. However, we have an excellent back up system that guarantees coverage in the event of an emergency or illness of your caregiver.

Do you conduct personality matches to ensure that caregivers will be a good fit for my mother/dad?

In an effort to try to match the right caregiver with our clients, on admission we ask about client preferences/likes/dislikes. Our Director of Personal Care knows each of her caregivers well, so she is able to determine who is best suited for a particular case. This highly trained R.N. also supervises all of our caregivers who are out in the field.

Can my loved one be taken care of safely at home?

Often patients, who are hospitalized, develop complications, such as infections. When someone is care for at home, the risk of infection is much lower. Home Care provides one-on-one attention, and allows the patient and family to have more involvement in the care. Our expect Home Health Care clinicians also provide training to the patient and family on how to make the home environment safer by assessing the home setting and making suggestions on infection control and adaptive equipment.

What is the role of family members in Home Health Care?

This is the time of year that we think about the importance of family in our lives.  When you chose Home Health Care you can remain in your home, surrounded by friends and family and still receive the expert care that you need to help you recover. Family members can visit as much as necessary and often are able to play an active role in your recuperation. They can have peace of mind, knowing that you are receiving care in a safe, therapeutic environment at home during the holiday season.
